BUSINESS DIRECTION DEFINED

From Business Direction Defined: A foundational explainer:

"Business Direction is the disciplined, ongoing practice of clarifying where an organization (or one of its interests) can and should be headed, then ensuring that intent is properly positioned, articulated and stewarded over time.

Leadership intent is formed when leaders decide where the business is headed and what it is meant to become. Decisions, that are expressed through mission, vision, strategy and the expectations management sets before work begins.

But challenges often emerge later, as that intent is translated into action and applied across people, teams, partners and systems — in initiatives, narratives, presentations, communications, tools and everyday activity.

Because when intent is not fully articulated and guided, interpretation fills the gaps. Teams infer meaning. Partners make assumptions. Systems extend patterns. Individually, these actions are reasonable. But over time, their combined effect can shape outcomes in ways leadership did not intend or anticipate.

For much of the past, this process unfolded slowly. Human judgment, friction and delay limited how far interpretation could travel before it was questioned or corrected.

AI has forever changed that condition."
